Elgin-New Leipzig Public School

Elgin-New Leipzig Public School is a small town school with big advantages. Home to 160 students in grades K-12, we have 22 licensed staff members in a variety of curriculum areas. Our curriculum includes a full selection of ITV courses to complete a top-notch education for all students. Students attend our school from the towns of Elgin, New Leipzig, Carson, Mott and Glen Ullin.
Our school is part of the Southwest Special Education Unit, along with schools in Mott, Carson, and Flasher.
We use Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in our school to provide targeted instruction for all of our students. In addition, we are a school-wide Title I school.  These program provides additional resources to all students to provide targeted instruction for specific learning needs.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-Curricular Activities
In addition to receiving a complete academic education, students who attend our school also participate in a large number of extra-curricular activities, such as FFA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), basketball, football and volleyball.
Our FFA program is one of the best in the state. In both 2018 and 2019, the North Dakota State Farmer recipient was from our school. Our FFA Ag Mechanics team also placed 3rd in the nation in 2018.
Our FBLA program has members regularly place in state competition. Seven ENL FBLA members placed in the state competition 2019. Seven FBLA members in 2019 and six in 2018 and represented our state at the national competition.
We offer a wide range of sports in our school as well. Students participate in volleyball, football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, track, and golf. The Grant County Coyotes Girls Basketball team took the state championship in 2018. For football and track, we are combined with Flasher Public School and are the Storm.
We also host a yearly science fair which produces state competing projects and Acalymic teams who also place at state competitions.

Award-Winning Education
Our school has been a nationally recognized Title I school (2014-2015).  Our title coordinator was also recognized as an Exceptional Title I Educator (2016-2017).  We were selected as one of 10 schools by the National Dropout Prevention Center and the ND Department of Public Instruction making the greatest impact on closing the achievement gap between students with and without disabilities based on mathematics achievement, reading achievement, and graduation rates.  Our high school principal was also recognized as the principal of the year in ND in 2020.

Swimming Instruction
The ENL school system is the only school in southwest North Dakota with a full-sized indoor pool. With this invaluable resource, we are able to provide additional Red Cross certified swimming instruction to our students throughout the school year as a part of the physical education instruction, as well as water aerobics, open swimming, and water safety instructor training. During the summer months, additional swimming lessons are also offered for students from the surrounding areas.

 Communities
Our school is located in the city of Elgin, which has a hospital, bank, dollar store, grocery store, newspaper, hardware store, and a number of other businesses. Our community has several active organizations such as Lions, 4-H, Community Betterment, Job Development Authority, Cubs Scouts, and Girls Scouts. Since we are an hour and a half away from Dickinson or Bismarck, the city of Elgin is self-sufficient. The population of Elgin is about 650, New Leipzig 250, Mott 700 and Carson 275. Elgin is located about 35 miles south of Interstate 94 at the junction of Highway 49 and Highway 21.
